At an early stage, the photographer Laurenz Berges was particularly interested in special places in Germany that history seems to have passed. For these particular places, he developed an immersive visual language of silence and light that captures their visible presence, but also the echoes of former life. Berg’s regular involvement with the Ruhr region resulted in images of the north of the city of Duisburg. He shows himself captivated by a current scene that looks like the opposite side of the present. The images convey an artistic intensity that allows them to develop a peculiar glow.
